Dying Light 2 has abandoned some of the original game’s identity, according to the project director.

In a new interview with GamesRadar, Dying Light series director Tymon Smektala stated that the sequel “sacrificed some of what made the first game stand out” in order to make it more accessible to a wider audience. He explained that the team tried to deliver a more technically polished experience, but that this came at the expense of the horror and suspense elements that players loved about the first game.

Smectala noted that the game was a commercial success, but it lost some of the “edge and menace” that characterized the original Dying Light. He added that the team received feedback from players that the experience no longer had the same character, emphasizing that the upcoming project, Dying Light: The Beast, would attempt to recapture that identity while maintaining high quality.
