In a new interview with Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, Abrak discussed the lessons the development team learned with its previous projects and how it managed to develop AAA-quality Hitman games while maintaining a sustainable development process as an independent developer.
Abrak talked about the development of Hitman Absolution and how the team designed everything from scratch, even the toilets in the bathrooms, but the team moved to a more long-term mindset when it came to the series and with Hitman 2016 they cleverly reused previously designed elements.
According to Abrak, Hitman 2016’s budget was around $100 million, while the second installment was around $60 million, and the third installment only cost $20 million, despite being the latest installment and receiving the series’ best reviews since the reboot, as well as introducing several new and unique areas.
Abrak talked about their development of the new James Bond game. Of course, the investment in it is greater and the project is ambitious and new, but the way the team is building the project is centered around long-term thinking and providing the right environment for a second part. The team has become very efficient in the development process, which is very important for them as an independent development team.
