ROG Xbox Ally doesn't offer an OLED screen for this reason

Following the recent unveiling of the ROG Xbox Ally laptop in both versions, gamers noticed that neither version features an OLED display, which raised questions and criticism. Whitson Gordon, the company’s head of gaming content marketing, explained the reason for not using this type of display.

According to Gordon, delivering an OLED display with VRR support and achieving satisfactory results was difficult and not possible without making sacrifices on the part of VRR. The company believes that any gaming display in 2025 should support this technology, but the combination of supporting it and using an OLED display consumes power at a much higher rate than the LCD displays used in the ROG Xbox Ally. The selling price is also affected by using displays with newer technology.
