Following the recent official shutdown of the XDefiant servers, its producer, Mark Rubin, announced his retirement from the gaming industry after a career spanning over 20 years. This announcement came in a tweet he dedicated to discussing XDefiant and the shutdown of its servers.
Rubin thanked players in his post for their support of the game, which grew its fan base at launch at the fastest pace in Ubisoft’s history despite a lack of marketing. However, he believes the lack of post-launch marketing was the reason for the game’s failure to continue expanding. He also discussed several other interesting technical and organizational aspects, which you can read about in the post below.
Rubin worked as a producer on Call of Duty games at Infinity Ward and produced all versions of Modern Warfare as well as Ghost and Infinite Warfare. As for his future plans, Rubin will use his retirement to spend more time with his family.
