Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the return of the action-RPG series after an absence of more than 20 years. The development team behind the game spoke about it in a new interview, confirming that the game has been built in a linear fashion, offering a series of successive missions that offer side areas. The mission ends with a boss fight, and then moves on to the next mission.
The team emphasized that the revival of the series is not linked to the popularity of challenging experiences like the Dark Souls games. The game was developed to be suitable for a wide range of players, without focusing on difficulty, but rather balancing challenge and fun. The game is planned for release next year.
